After introducing Frame Semantics and FrameNet, the talk demonstrated how FN handles argument structure (or dependents) of verbs (and other parts of speech) using Frame Elements. Dr. Petruck then discussed FrameNet's use of null-instantiation for lexically licensed omissions, and concluded by reporting on the use of FN data for some recent novel approaches to developing semantic role labeling systems as an intermediate step for downstream applications such as question-answering, legal information extraction, and sentiment analysis.
